Blog Post-Mortem: My Blog Was Deleted Because I Forgot to Renew

Everything Happens for a Reason

A few days ago, I had a fever and a cold that lasted a week. I lay in bed, unable to deal with anything, my head feeling dizzy.

I also manually turned off ntfy notifications.

So, if anything important happened, I wouldn’t see it, let alone actively open my blog to check its status.

All morning, I was debugging frp and nginx, thinking there was an issue with the cloud server proxy, which was causing the website to be inaccessible.

It wasn’t until the afternoon that I discovered the domain name had been released.

That’s why the website was inaccessible.

This domain has Google AdSense, and a large number of search engine inclusions and visits, so I absolutely cannot give it up.

Moreover, other social platforms still have this website’s address. If it were used as a pornographic or gambling site, I would be misunderstood.

At first, I couldn’t find the domain purchase entry. Later, I found a previous pending order and was able to buy the domain back.

It scared me to death!

I no longer write technical articles because they are time-consuming, laborious, and unrewarding.

And now with AI, technology isn’t worth much anymore.

It’s better to simply record my life and thoughts, such as exploring side hustles.

Remember, it’s an exploration log, not a tutorial.

I no longer resist writing articles and posting rich media on social media.

Because they don’t require renewals, don’t need attention to host security and custom settings, don’t require tinkering – just focus on writing content.

And their traffic is faster and greater; followers can see posts almost immediately after publishing.

However, for search engine-indexed blog websites, visitors are almost all strangers, and there’s hardly any traffic or clicks in the short term.

Adults don’t make choices; they want both.

I used to be afraid of acquaintances seeing my posts, but now I’m too tired from work.

I’d rather earn money through self-media than work like a robot, non-stop without eating or drinking.

Social media makes money faster. Only with money can I have my own time to do what I love.

My self-developed mobile app has expiration reminders.

But no matter how good a tool is, if a person’s condition isn’t good, they can’t handle it. This is also why many things are inconvenient for the elderly.

Let me record some data.

Yesterday, an everyday article I posted on social media got 100 reads in one day.

If this data were on a standalone blog, an article being read 100 times might take more than three months.

I now plan to publish one piece of content on both social media and my standalone blog.

I want both the traffic and the revenue from both.

At the same time, I’ll test the data from both platforms to see which aspects are better. For example, a standalone blog allows writing sensitive or trending content without restrictions, while social platforms offer faster reading and sharing, even viral spread.
